Faux Letterpress TWO WAYS for Christmas

Today I have used the Swirls & Curls Embossing Folder to create two examples of the Faux Letterpress Technique.

Card 1:

Tips:

  • The inside front of the embossing folder was inked with Berry Burst ink and run through the Big Shot with a piece of Whisper White.
  • Merry and Christmas were die cut with both Lemon Lime Twist and Basic Black and offset to create a shadow.
  • Supplies:
    • Stamp Set: Merry Christmas to All
    • Cardstock: Lemon Lime Twist, Basic Black, Whisper White
    • Ink: Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst
    • Accessories: Swirls & Curls EF
  • … just a little stamping for the inside and envelope

Card 2:

Tips:

  • This time, the inside back of the embossing folder was inked with Lemon Lime Twist ink and run through the Big Shot with a piece of Whisper White.
  • Merry and Christmas were die cut with Berry Burst.
  • Supplies:
    • Stamp Set: Merry Christmas to All
    • Cardstock: Berry Burst, Basic Black, Whisper White
    • Ink: Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst
    • Accessories: Swirls & Curls EF
  • … just a little stamping for the inside and envelope

As you can see, you get a totally different effect depending on which side of the embossing folder you ink. Which one of these do you prefer?

  1. So happy that you like this technique Mal. The ink pads don’t have to be too well inked. If so the ink could get into parts of the embossing folder that you don’t want inked. It is quite usual to take a few swipes to get good coverage. You can also use a sponge or brayer if you want. I usually prefer the swipe method.
    Happy stamping. xx

  2. Annette, I just tried this and wow what an effect it has. I don’t have that particular embossing folder but used another SU one and I cant work out which side I like better – the popping out side or the one that is indented. (Great technical words eh!!!!).

Question: Does your ink pad have to be well inked as it took me about three swipes of the ink pad to get a good coverage. I actually thought my ink pads were well inked as I inked them all about 3 months ago.

Anyways, I do like this technique. Thank you,. XX Mal
