At a recent technique class, we used foil paper and heat embossing to create stunning Black Ice effects.
Card 1:
This is on silver foil and is the one that participants made during the class.
Tips:
- An archival black ink pad is required for this technique. Stazon Tuxedo Black and Basic Black Archival ink pads are two that will work well.
- Using the direct to paper technique, drag the black ink pad down the top of Soft Sky card base.
- Turn the card upside down and repeat the technique.
- Black Ice Panel:
- Using the direct to paper technique, drag the black ink pad down the top of the silver foil.
- Turn the foil upside down and repeat the technique.
- Heat set the ink with a heat tool.
- Stamp the images from High Tide using black ink.
- Heat set the ink with a heat tool.
- Using the direct to paper technique, lightly drag the Versamark ink pad down the top of the silver foil.
- Turn the foil upside down and repeat the technique.
- Cover the foil with Clear Embossing Powder and heat set with a heat tool.
- Layer the art panel onto the Whisper White panel.
- Colour a piece of 1/8″ Sheer Whisper White Ribbon with a Soft Sky marker and then attach around the art panel.
- Sentiment Panel:
- Punch out a Tailored Tag shape with Silver Foil.
- Repeat the procedures used for the Black Ice Panel, stamping the sentiment from Lots of Happy instead of High Tide images.
- Attach to the base of the art panel and then use Dimensionals to attach the combined art / sentiment panels to the base card.

Card 2:
This sample was made using Champagne Foil to show participants the different looks you can get using different coloured foils. Gold Foil would work just as well!

- Cardstock: Dapper Denim, Champagne Foil, Whisper White
- Ink: Basic Black Archival, Versamark
- Stamp Sets: High Tide, Lots of Happy
- Accessories: Clear Embossing Powder, Copper Trim, Tailored Tag Punch, Dimensionals
