Technique Tuesday: Trifold Shutter Card

This month’s technique is a Trifold Shutter Card. Don’t be put off when you see the pictures. 🙂

I apologise for the quality of these photos as the weather is playing havoc with my lighting.

This is what a finished card looks like from the front.

…. and this is looking from the side.

It is nowhere near as complicated as you might think. All it takes is two cuts and a few score lines.

The following is a simple diagram showing you the basic cutting and scoring.

I have prepared both metric and imperial measurements so you can choose which ever suits you. Just click on the relevant PDF file for full details.

MetricMetric PDF
If you want to make the metric card, you will need two pieces of A4 (21cm x 29.7cm) card stock. One piece makes the base card and the other is for layering. Should you wish to do more layering you will need more card stock or designer paper. For each additional layer, the measurements will be 0.5cm less than the previous layer. For example, if a layer is 9.4cm x 3.7cm, then the next layer will be 8.9cm x 3.2cm.

Imperial: Imperial PDF
If you want to make the imperial card, you will need a piece of 12″ x 12″ for the base card and a piece of letter size (8½” x 11″) card stock for the layering. Again, if you want to do more than one layer, you will need more card stock or designer paper. For each additional layer, the measurements will be ¼” less than the previous layer. For example, if a layer is 3¾” x 1¼”, then the next layer will be 3½” x 1″.

I hope this hasn’t been too daunting and that you will give it a try. I would love to see your results.
